Castle of Oldenburg

The Castle of Oldenburg is a central point of the city, which was a former residence of the Grand Dukes of Oldenburg. With the handover of the house in 1923 the castle became a state museum and can now be entered and visited by the public during the opening hours of the museum.

City Park

Right beside the Castle of Oldenburg you can find the castle garden and city park of Oldenburg. The park covers an area which is about 16 hectares wide. The park is open for the Public for free. The style of the park is reminiscent to the english landscape garden style which was planned and realized by Duke Peter Friedich Ludwig of Oldenburg in 1914.

Schlosshöfe Oldenburg

The Schlosshöfe shopping center was opened in 2011 and is located nearby the Castle of Oldenburg. On more than 12,000 square meters of retail space are more than 80 shops with many different offers. The Schlosshöfe in Oldenburg is great for shopping.

Prinzenpalais

The Prinzenpalais is located on the opposite of the Castle of Oldenburg and houses a large gallery of paintings and art of classical modernism. Besides works of Expressionism and Impressionism it is also possible to look at works of art that were created after 1945 in Germany.

Oldenburg state theatre

The Oldenburger Staatstheater is a well-known plase for musicals, operas and theatrical performances of all kinds. The program changes constantly and attracts many viewers with its diversity. They are showing not only known classical works but also new interpreted works which were transferred to the modern times.

Lappan

The Lappan is a landmark of the city and stands in the pedestrian area of the city center. The former bell tower is one of the tallest and oldest buildings in the city and right next to a central bus station.

City center

The city center of Oldenburg is within easy walking distance and offers a great variety of shops. By preserving the facades from previous centuries, visitors to the city will find a mixture of modern shops and visually beatiful buildings in the city, which often tell their own story. The city center connects many sights and museums in Oldenburg with a pedestrian zone and also impresses with a wide bus network across the city.
